Safety Reports allows you to customize the categories and causes used in the Safety Observations app to better fit the specific needs of your organization. This feature ensures that users can accurately classify and record their observations based on the conditions and factors relevant to your work environment. Below are the steps for customizing categories and causes for your observations.
Step 1: Log In to Your Safety Reports Admin Page
To get started, log in to the Safety Reports Admin page using the credentials provided by your organization.
Step 2: Access Observations Settings
Once you’re logged in, select Observations from the grey bar at the top of the screen. This will open up the settings where you can customize the categories and causes for your safety observations.
Step 3: Choose Category or Cause Maintenance
On the far-left side of the screen, you’ll see options for Category Maintenance and Cause Maintenance. Select the one you’d like to customize.
Category Maintenance allows you to manage the different categories for observations (e.g., equipment issues, safety behaviors).
Cause Maintenance lets you manage the causes that contribute to safety incidents (e.g., human error, equipment malfunction).
Step 4: Hide Categories/Causes from Observers
By default, categories and causes created by Safety Reports are visible to observers. If you wish to hide any of these options, you can do so by unchecking the boxes in the Include column at the far-right of the list. This will prevent the selected categories or causes from appearing in the app for observers.
Step 5: Create a New Category or Cause
To create a new category or cause, click the Add New Category or Add New Cause button located on the far-right side of the screen.
Step 6: Enter the Category Name
In the text box labeled Category Name (or Cause Name for causes), type the name of the new category or cause. Once you've entered the name, click the Submit button to save your changes.
Step 7: Viewing or Editing Custom Categories
You can view or edit your custom categories or causes at any time. To do so, simply select the Custom radio button under the Category Source (or Cause Source) heading. This will filter the list to show only the custom categories or causes that you’ve created.
Step 8: Availability to Observers
Once you've created and saved your new category or cause, it will be available to observers in the Safety Observations mobile app. Observers will be able to select your new category or cause when submitting their next observation.
Conclusion
Customizing categories and causes in Safety Reports helps streamline the observation process, ensuring that your team can accurately record and classify safety issues. By following the steps above, you can tailor the app’s options to match the specific safety needs and conditions of your organization, making it easier for users to submit relevant and detailed observations.
