How to Refresh Your Browser (The "Safe" Way)

To fix website errors or see the most recent updates, you usually only need to clear your Cache. Following these steps will keep your passwords and login sessions intact.

To fix website errors or see the most recent updates, you usually only need to clear your Cache. Following these steps will keep your passwords and login sessions intact.


Google Chrome

  1. Click the three dots (⋮) in the top-right corner.

  2. Select Clear Browsing Data.

  3. Set the Time Range to All time.

  4. The Setup: * [ ] Uncheck Browsing history

    • [ ] Uncheck Cookies and other site data

    • [x] Check "Cached images and files"

  5. Click Clear data.


Mozilla Firefox

  1. Click the menu button (≡) and select Settings.

  2. Select Privacy & Security from the left-hand menu.

  3. Scroll to Cookies and Site Data and click Clear Data...

  4. The Setup:

    • [ ] Uncheck Cookies and Site Data

    • [x] Check "Cached Web Content"

  5. Click Clear.


Safari (Mac)

Note: Safari’s standard "Clear History" button deletes everything (cookies, history, and cache). To ONLY clear the cache, use this "Pro" method:

  1. Click Safari in your top menu bar > Settings (or Preferences).

  2. Go to the Advanced tab and check the box: Show features for web developers.

  3. A new Develop menu will appear at the top of your screen. Click it.

  4. Select Empty Caches. (This happens instantly with no checkboxes required!)


Microsoft Edge

  1. Click the three dots (⋯) and select Settings.

  2. Click Privacy, search, and services.

  3. Under "Clear browsing data," click Choose what to clear.

  4. The Setup:

    • [ ] Uncheck Browsing history

    • [ ] Uncheck Cookies and other site data

    • [x] Check "Cached images and files"

  5. Click Clear now.


Why are we doing this?

  • Browsing History: Just a list of sites you've visited. Deleting it doesn't fix website errors.

  • Cookies: These keep you logged in. Deleting these is annoying because you'll have to re-enter all your passwords.

  • Cached Images & Files: These are "snapshots" of websites. Deleting these forces the browser to download the newest version of our site, which usually fixes technical glitches.
